THE STAKES WERE CLEAR: Our control over our bodies — and our lives — was under attack.
The U.S. Supreme Court took away the federal constitutional right to abortion — and voters across the country saw politicians restrict their rights with abortion bans. These bans were especially harmful to Black, Latino, and Indigenous communities, as well as people with low incomes and people in rural areas. And state politicians weren’t stopping at abortion. Policymakers were attacking Medicaid, birth control, LGBTQ+ rights, and even democracy itself.
Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations ran our largest-ever midterm electoral program, in support of candidates up and down the ballot across the country who championed our right to reproductive freedom.
Today, there is no debate: Abortion rights altered the course of the 2022 midterm election. Millions of people nationwide turned out to vote for reproductive rights champions and abortion ballot measures. Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations made a historic investment to help make it happen.
